Everything You Need to Know about Doctors Eyecare for Eye Health

Doctors Eyecare is an independent, full-scope optometry clinic. We focus on utilizing the latest technology to diagnose and manage a range of eye diseases, such as dry eye, glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration, to name but a few. We are also committed to using that same engineering in our lenses to help our patients receive quality optics in their glasses.

We launched on November 1, 2019, and despite being shut down for 3 months during the first wave of COVID-19, we were still available to our emergency patients whenever they needed us. Since the outbreak, we have upgraded our HVAC system to provide sterilized air in our practice throughout the day for additional safety.

We service the greater Grande Prairie area and make great efforts not to neglect surrounding areas, owing to our convenient practice hours of Mondays 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (alternating), Tuesdays 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Wednesdays 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and Thursday to Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

The Doctors EyeCare Grande Prairie Difference

You will always be met with a smile, and our patients become family. Our core team is excited to celebrate every victory and lament every strife, creating a feeling of community. At Doctors Eyecare, you and your family will never be just a number.

We take pride in offering thorough eye exams and prompt emergency care to meet the needs of our community. With the aid of the latest equipment, including Optomap retinal imaging, I-Care tonometer, OCT, and visual fields, we can help diagnose eye diseases and facilitate treatment options early. We invest in stocking quality eye drops, wipes, and vitamins exclusive to medical professionals so your eyes receive comprehensive care even after you leave our office.

Doctors Eyecare’s future vision is to continue investing in the newest diagnostic tools and staying focused on the future of eye care.

We carefully source our frame lines from independent companies around the world to provide unique and quality styles in our gallery. We don’t want you to have the same frame as everyone else. We want to help you express your unique style and fall in love with your eyewear as more than a necessity!

Our dedication to eye care is matched by our passion for protecting the environment. We proudly recycle 80% of the waste generated in our practice and offer reusable and virtual intake forms, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. Additionally, we have a lens cleaner refill station where spray bottles can be refilled for a $2 donation towards the BC & Alberta Guide Dogs association.

In the spirit of “paying it forward,” we sponsor local athletes, the Grande Prairie Firefighters Charitable Foundation, and the Coldest Night Of The Year. We have been happy to help local seniors homes, schools, and the Wapiti House by donating cases, fog-blocking cloths, and reading glasses. As we grow, we plan to widen our impact in the community that carries us.

Written by Dr. Shonah Finlay

Dr. Finlay grew up by the gold mines in South Africa and knew from a young age she wanted to follow a medically related career. She applied to and was accepted to study optometry at the former Rand Afrikaans University in South Africa. During her last year of studies, Dr. Finlay worked on the Train of Hope: South Africa’s Phelophepa. This custom-built train (now 2) travels throughout rural South Africa to deliver top-quality primary healthcare to disadvantaged communities. It was a wonderful experience to bring sight to so many people that otherwise do without. Those memories always remind her of why she loves practicing optometry.
